EnerStar Solutions provides quality interlocking CLT matting for a wide range of industries. Our matting options come in various sizes and are developed to accommodate soft or uneven ground, keeping your equipment and other job site components stable and safe.
We analyze your site and provide full logistics services as well, so you don’t have to worry about a thing.
Interlocking Heavy Equipment Matting: Sizes Available
Sizes Available
- 5ply CLT Mats
- 8′ x 16′
- 8′ x 32′
Features
- Material: Douglas Fir timber with patented steel interlocks
- 5 layers of Douglas Fir timber that are cross-laminated to increase the strength and stiffness of the mat with steel interlocks, which create the ability to transfer heavy loads and create a smooth, safe work environment for the heaviest load applications
- Faster, Safer, Stronger
Interlocking Douglas Fir CLT Matting
Faster • Safer • Stronger
- CLT Matting provides the high-strength properties of a developed beam.
- 7” of interlocked matting height provides 7x higher load capacity than 1 ¾ feet of double-layered mats… plus much higher resistance to compression-deflection and shear forces
- All our interlocking matting mob-demob quickly and safely with our OSHA-approved certified “Lifting Harness. “
- No worker contact while Mats are in motion
- Faster, safer laydown-pickup and loading-unloading trucks
- Interlocking distributes high matting loads to adjacent mats, keeping the matting pad in equilibrium with the underlying ground bearing support. This increases the load capacity of the matting pad significantly (up to 15x) higher than non-interlocked matting pads
- Eliminates external Steel Frame issues, plus it is more compatible with steel crawler tracks
- Easily cleaning as CLT is one solid smooth mat providing a safe working surface… plus when matting pads are interlocked, they tend to stay much cleaner and on top of sites with inconsistent wet, low ground bearing pressure soils-substates
Interlocking CLT Matting Benefits
Cross-Laminated Timber is a laminated wood beam referred to as “Mass Timber” or “Manufactured Wood”. CLT mats are composed of multiple layers of timber, with each layer oriented perpendicular to the adjacent layer(s).
Glue is applied between each layer, and all layers are compressed in a press for 1 hour to form a single developed beam (mat).
The benefits of CLT Beams (mats):
- Exceptional Strength properties
- Superior Rigidity-Deflection-Compression-Shear resistance in all 3 planes
- Design Flexibility for all matting applications
- Environmentally Friendly and Lightweight
- Can be used as an alternative to concrete, masonry, and steel
- CLT Mats are manufactured in a rigid, quality-controlled process for consistent, predictable, high-performance
- Cost-effective, plus ground insulation and plant protection

Frequently Asked Questions
How does the cross-laminated timber (CLT) design improve the strength and stiffness of matting?
Cross-laminated timber is comprised of several layers of timber. Each layer is perpendicular to the next, then bonded under pressure to form a single beam.
Benefits include rigidity, resistance to compression, strength, and deflection in multiple directions at once, keeping your equipment stable during operation.
This design also improves the strength-to-weight ratio because they are made from softwood (usually pine) rather than hardwood.
This allows them to be 40% lighter than traditional matting without sacrificing any strength. They are developed to handle vibration, shock, and repeated load-bearing without breaking, warping, or deflection.
How does the interlocking steel mechanism in CLT matting distribute heavy loads across a work pad?
Adjacent mats are connected through an interlocking system that creates a fully unified surface.
This allows for even load distribution across multiple mats, preventing concentration in one area. This helps maintain stability and mat equilibrium with the underlying ground and increases the overall load-bearing capacity of your matting.
They are also well-suited for soft and uneven ground and can be formed in 5- or 7-layer configurations to accommodate various needs. Our team can help you determine your matting needs through a full analysis of your worksite, then tailor a package to your precise requirements.
How quickly can interlocking CLT matting be delivered, laid, and picked up at a remote work site?
Our interlocking CLT matting is developed to be mobilized and demobilized quickly and efficiently. EnerStar provides logistics, delivery, and professional installation to ensure your matting is laid properly and as quickly as possible.
The exact timeline will depend on your location, job site, and job size. Mats can often be laid in as little as 24-48 hours. When you call to set up your job, we will provide a more accurate timeline estimate based on your exact requirements.
