SpaceX Achieves Remarkable Milestone: Over 10,000 Starlink Satellites LaunchedSpaceX has reached an incredible milestone with its Starlink program, officially surpassing 10,000 satellites launched into low Earth orbit since the initiative began in 2019.
On October 19, 2025, SpaceX conducted its 131st and 132nd Falcon 9 missions, launching one rocket from Cape Canaveral, Florida, and the other from Vandenberg, California. Notably, the 10,000th Starlink satellite, part of the Starlink 11-19 mission, was deployed from the California launch site, carrying 28 optimized v2 mini satellites.
The journey began on May 23, 2019, when SpaceX launched its first batch of 60 satellites from Cape Canaveral using a Falcon 9 rocket. Currently, of the over 10,000 satellites in orbit, approximately 8,608 are operational, while others have been intentionally de-orbited or destroyed in the atmosphere due to faults.
This milestone underscores SpaceX’s commitment to expanding global internet access through its innovative satellite technology.
Starlink Speeds Surge: A 50% Increase in Performance
In an impressive development for satellite internet users, SpaceX has announced that Starlink’s median download speeds have increased by 50% this year, rising from approximately 160 Mbps in January to between 210 and 220 Mbps today. This significant enhancement is attributed to ongoing improvements in low-level software and networking, as well as the integration of new satellites into the Starlink constellation.
Moreover, upload speeds have also seen a notable increase, climbing from around 20 Mbps to 30 Mbps. Notably, these upgrades are a part of SpaceX’s efforts to provide reliable, high-speed internet to both rural and urban areas, positioning Starlink as a competitive alternative to traditional fiber internet providers.
Over the weekend, Michael Nicolls, SpaceX’s Vice President of Starlink Engineering, shared a graph illustrating the speed increases Starlink has experienced this year. While Starlink.com provides expected speeds for each U.S. state, Nicolls’ graph highlights the median speeds during peak hours across the entire network.
